Questions Surface about Phone Solicitations

(Lincoln, NE)- The State Troopers Association of Nebraska has received several phone calls from citizens concerned about telemarketing calls claiming to be from the Nebraska State Patrol. Individuals have been receiving calls in which the callers announce themselves in a way that insinuates the donations are for the Nebraska State Patrol.

The State Troopers Association of Nebraska (STAN), in Lincoln, Nebraska is currently calling throughout Nebraska for the magazine, The Nebraska Trooper, selling advertising space and business support listings in the magazine. They also have a residential sponsor program calling year round from Omaha, Nebraska.

The Nebraska State Patrol reminds all residents it does not solicit funds from the public. The State Troopers Association of Nebraska, a non-profit organization does call on Nebraska citizens to support various activities, such as those listed above as well as Special Olympics Nebraska.

The State Patrol reminds citizens:

Be sure of the charities they are supporting

Don’t be pressured into donating, if you don’t want to

Ask the charity to send you information on how your donation will be used

Ask if they have a local office or chapter you can donate to.

For additional information on illegal solicitations and scams visit the Nebraska Attorney General’s web site at www.ago.state.ne.us or call the AG’s Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-727-6432.
